Unlocking Your Potential: My Journey Through the GitHub Foundation Certifications
Here is some first-hand experience and tips for the GitHub Foundations certification exam!
Following up on my previous post, here is my experience with the GH Foundations certification!
When the opportunity presented itself, as a tech enthusiast with extensive experience using GitHub, I was eager to pursue the GitHub Foundation Certification. We had a certification drive at Avanade, so we could get certified at no cost - thanks to GitHub! The program proved to be incredibly beneficial in validating my skills as a developer at source control and everything GitHub. Here's how it exceeded expectations for me.
Accessible Preparation:
The certification process is designed to accommodate users of any level, making preparation a breeze even if you haven't used GitHub before or just occasionally. Microsoft Learn and LinkedIn Learning offer comprehensive study materials, covering all aspects of the exam content with ease. These resources helped me quickly grasp key concepts and felt confident in my preparation.

Seamless Exam Booking Experience:
Booking an exam through PSI Online was a seamless process made possible by their Single Sign-On (SSO) integration with GitHub accounts. This streamlined process saved time, however for first time registration it takes some time due to the checks (need a valid photo ID - so you may need to scan your drivers license or passport). However, it would surely save time you book your next exam with PSI!
Practice Tests: The Key to Success
Though GH provides very clear exam objectives and a great study guide - i can not undermine the importance of practice tests in familiarising oneself with the exam format before taking it. ghcertified.com provides extensive practice tests for all GitHub certifications - not just this one, making it a valuable tool available at no cost. This allowed me to focus on gaps in my knowledge regarding GH and learn and improve on my weaker areas. I surely had less test-taking anxiety this time around since the format and style of questions was more or less the same as practice tests.
The Value Beyond Recognition:
While certification is a significant achievement, it's the added value of understanding version control, collaboration tools, open-source best practices, and networking that makes this program truly valuable.
By taking the Foundation Certification, not only i refreshed my knowledge and learned a few new bits - I gained these essential skills for any software development project, making me more employable in today's fast-paced tech industry.
In conclusion, if you're looking to enhance your software development skillset or simply want recognition from a reputable certification program, GitHub Foundations is definitely worth considering. The accessibility of preparation materials and seamless exam booking experience make it an ideal choice for individuals at all levels. With the value that comes beyond recognition, why wouldn't you consider taking this certification? Trust me – it's worth every minute of preparation!
