Github Certifications : My take

Yesterday was a momentous day. Yesterday, i did my last GitHub exam - Github Administration even though I never would need to install and use enterprise server (never say never ;-) ) - most enterprises today have them setup for you when you start!

However, now that i have all the certifications from GitHub I wanted to revisit what i have learned through the journey and give my 2 cents back to the community!

I took at a slow pace but - however I booked the exam dates so that I have focus and a deadline to meet. I finally completed my GitHub Certification journey with this last exam - Crossing the finish line with the Github Administration exam. Despite never anticipating the need to install an enterprise server in my day-to-day work, it felt like conquering a mountain.

Throughout this process, I learned more than just the technical aspects of Git and GitHub workflows. It was a transformative journey that honed my skills, broadened my knowledge base, and instilled a newfound confidence in my abilities.

The Learning Curve:

Each certification presented its own unique challenges. From understanding Git concepts like branching and merging to navigating the complexities of workflows and collaboration tools, the learning curve was steep at times. But with every hurdle overcome, the satisfaction of mastering a new skill grew.

Discovering New Perspectives:

The courses opened my eyes to the diverse ways people use GitHub. From learning about open-source contributions to exploring advanced workflows for large organisations, I realized the platform's potential transcended my initial expectations.

Building a Stronger Community:

Interacting with other learners in the GitHub community was invaluable. The support of fellow students, the camaraderie in online discussions, and the encouragement from mentors helped me stay motivated and focused throughout.

Key Takeaways:

My GitHub Certification journey taught me:

  • The importance of continuous learning: The tech landscape is constantly evolving, and staying ahead of the curve requires consistent effort.
  • The power of community: Collaboration and shared learning can significantly enhance the learning experience.
  • The value of practical application: Theory is important, but applying learned concepts to real-world scenarios is crucial for solidifying understanding.

For anyone considering pursuing GitHub Certifications, I highly recommend it. The journey will be challenging, but the rewards are immeasurable. You'll gain valuable technical skills, expand your knowledge base, and become part of a vibrant community of passionate learners.

Remember, the journey is just as important as the destination. Embrace the learning process, celebrate your progress, and enjoy the ride!

I shall follow up with individual certifications and tips for others to prepare and mater GitHub fundamentals, actions, advanced security (secret scanning, code-scanning , dependabot) in follow up posts. Keep learning!!!
